‘I began making theatre in a large sunny town of Central Africa at the age of 12.

A sheet, a lamp, a tape recorder and carton figures were my first and only tools. A lot has changed since then, but maybe also not. For the last 20 years, I trained and worked in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Poland and the UK. I dreamed a lot, I questioned and said no, I travelled and looked for a way. We Are Raw Material was created upon my return from 5 years of wander and wonder around and about theatrical cultures and acting techniques. This research was fuelled by the desire to make work which uses the bare minimum: the self, the text and the space and which seeks in the same gesture to sweep with equal strength the long forgotten triad of movement, melody and words.’ – Maria, Artistic Director
