Black Monk and Other Stories

A free composition on Chekhov’s stories by Raw Material

A monk, an orchard, daring designs and wooden floors

Chekhov’s joyful Black Monk, performed for the first time in the UK, will appear in the intimate warmth of the unexpected Holborn Workshop.

The performers will explore the rawness of the text, the space and themselves through a changing composition. The five evenings are all different to each other, as nothing is learnt by heart.

They embark with and within the audience on a journey of stories and songs via a theatrical approach rarely seen in the UK based on études: a composition provides the form within which the actors are free to play using their own words, images and impulses.

Cast: Jarrah Evelyn Newman, Maria Gaitanidi
